BASIC DOS COMMANDS FOR NETWORKING

PING: Ping is a command that allows you to check whether the host is alive or not.
             to ping a particular host it has syntax
           c:/>ping hostname.com
          ex:- c:/>ping www.google.com
 Tracert :-  used to trace the route taken by the certain data packets from source to destination.
                     It's syntax is (at command prompt)--
c:/>tracert www.hostname.com
                     example:- c:/>tracert www.insecure.in

 Telnet :- Telnet is a program which runs on TCP/IP. we can connect to the remote computer on particular port by using it. When connected it grabs the daemon running on that port.
The basic syntax of Telnet is (at command prompt)--
c:/>telnet hostname.com

By default telnet connects to port 23 of remote computer.
So, the complete syntax is-
c:/>telnet www.hostname.com port

example:- c:/>telnet www.yahoo.com 21 or c:/>telnet 192.168.0.5 21


Netstat :- It displays protocol statistics and current TCP/IP network connections
It's syntax is (at command prompt)--

c:/>netstat -n

how to add registry editor in control panel in vista

i always thought that if regedit.exe was present in control panel .just few days ago i was surfing over net and i found very good article on how to add regedit in control panel.i found it as interesting so here i m sharing

Usage in Windows Vista
After installation you’ll need to choose System and Maintenance in the control panel.

And you’ll see the new Registry Editor item at the bottom of the list:

Perhaps most useful, it’s now available through the start menu search box.

Usage in Windows XP
After installation you’ll see the new icon in Control Panel if you choose the classic view.

Installation
Just extract and double-click on the installation script. You can remove using the included removal script.
